ABSTRACT

This short communication shows the impact of a solar eclipse on the meteorological
variables observed by a high-altitude station that studies the valley-mountain breeze
in the lower basin of the Manso River, Río Negro province. On December 14, 2020,
the moon hid between 90 and 100 % of the sun over Northern Patagonia. One
year after its installation, the “Los Notros” meteorological station, located on the
northern slope of the river valley, recorded the evolution of air temperature and
humidity, wind speed and direction, and global radiation during the eclipse. The
conditions that allow the development of the breeze in the valley are discussed, as
well as the effect that the eclipse had on the circulation on the slope.
